As well as numerous cultural attractions in the old Medina which are best explored on a guided walking tour or by horse-drawn caleche, Marrakech has a great range of outdoor activity options including quad biking, buggy adventures, horse riding and camel trek excursions. Helicopter and balloon flights operate throughout much of the year (depending on weather conditions) and offer a superb bird’s eye view of the famous Red City.
Within a 1 hour drive from Marrakech are the spectacular Atlas Mountains. With a backdrop of North Africa’s highest peak, snow-capped Jebel Toubkal, Imlil village is the hub of Atlas treks with several half or full day walking options available. Oukaimeden is another popular walking centre (and also a ski resort in winter). The Ourika Valley offers gentler walks in the foothills of the Atlas whilst Ouirgane is a particularly scenic village set on a reservoir.
The Cascades d’Ouzoud and Cascades d’Immouzer are two of Morocco’s greatest waterfalls – both accessible on day trips. Should you wish to chill by a large pool in an out-of-town tropical setting, take your pick from Nikki Beach or the Beldi Country Club. Families may enjoy a visit to Oasiria, a water park with beach. Even the Atlantic coast is not too far away – the old Portuguese walled city of Essaouira is a popular day trip.
For evening entertainment Chez Ali offers ‘Arabian Night’ shows while numerous venues offer live music and belly dancers. Moroccan cooking courses are growing in popularity as are the number of golf courses.
The team at Riad Africa will be pleased to provide advice and assist with bookings of activities.
